ABOUT OUR LIBRARY-
-
The Thurston library focuses on creating a love of reading and developing technology and research skills to prepare our children to be lifelong 21st century learners.

-
Students visit the library once (3rd-5th grade) or twice (pre-k-2nd).

-
Pre-Ks/Young 5s-Kindergarten classes focus on library expectations, responsibilities and literacy enrichment. Computer use is integrated throughout the year when appropriate.

-
1st graders continue diving into good books, with a bit more emphasis on technology and basic research.

-
2nd and 3rd grade will begin and continue to explore keyboarding skills, online research, and cyber-safety.

-
4th-5th grade will sharpen their research skills and continue to independently choose books appropriate to their reading levels and preferences. They will work in Google Classroom utilizing Google Apps.

Your school librarian!
My name is Sharyl Burau and I have been a school librarian for close to 20 years. I started in the Chicago Public School system and moved to Michigan in 2004. I worked in the Farmington Hills district for two years before I joined the Ann Arbor Public Schools at Carpenter Elementary (9 years) before coming to Thurston in 2015.
